Owner, Optometrist
Dr. Sima Mozdbar is a therapeutic optometrist and optometric glaucoma specialist dedicated to serving Lakeway and its surrounding communities. As the proud owner of Lakeway Eye Center, she combines comprehensive medical eye care and optical fashion in a boutique setting to create a uniquely personalized patient experience.
Dr. Mozdbar's educational foundation includes a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and Business Foundations Certificate from the University of Texas at Austin and a Doctor of Optometry degree with summa cum laude honors from the University of Houston College of Optometry. She also holds a Master of Public Health degree and a Certification in Public Health from the University of North Texas Health Science Center. Dr. Mozdbar’s extensive background in public health equips her to deliver holistic eye care, addressing not only the symptoms but also the underlying causes of ocular and systemic health conditions.
Her clinical expertise is bolstered by her emphasis in geriatric optometry, allowing her to cater to the unique vision needs of older adults. Dr. Mozdbar began her career as an assistant professor and the founding director of the Ophthalmic Clinical Research Center at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. Currently, she continues to serve as a research mentor at the Texas Christian University School of Medicine, where her work focuses on retinal biomarkers in neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. Mozdbar’s leadership extends to her roles on the Prevent Blindness Texas Board of Directors and as program chair for the Vision in Aging Special Interest Group of the American Academy of Optometry. She is also a peer reviewer for scientific journals and a committed member of the Texas and Central Texas Optometric Associations.
When she’s not in the clinic, Dr. Mozdbar enjoys outdoor adventures in Austin with her husband, Nik, and their two daughters, Soraya and Lilah.
Founder, Optometrist
Dr. El-Hitamy grew up in the Texas panhandle town of Amarillo. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and moved back to Austin after receiving his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry. He opened Lakeway Eye Center to provide quality eyecare to the Lake Travis area in June of 2001. He married Shelley, in September 2002 at Vintage Villas overlooking beautiful Lake Travis. His son Logan was born in 2006 and his daughter Lila in September of 2009. Since retiring, Dr. El-Hitamy has enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling.
